Boulder Molotov Attack Victim Dies, Suspect Now Faces Murder Charges Amid Expanded Indictment

An 82-year-old woman injured in a Molotov cocktail attack in Boulder, Colorado, on June 1, has died from her injuries, prosecutors announced. The death of Karen Diamond has led to an attempted murder charge against Mohamed Soliman being upgraded to first-degree murder.
Diamond is confirmed as the sole fatality from the violent incident that occurred on Pearl Street Mall. Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty expressed condolences, stating, “Our office will fight for justice for the victims, their loved ones, and the community.”
Further developments in the ongoing investigation include the identification of 14 additional victims, leading to 66 new counts added to the state indictment against Soliman. He previously pleaded not guilty to federal hate crime charges last week.
According to court documents, Soliman allegedly threw Molotov cocktails at a group advocating for the release of Israeli hostages, yelling “Free Palestine” during the attack. He reportedly told police he had been planning the assault for a year and “wanted to kill all Zionist people,” while also claiming it was not directed at the Jewish community but specifically at a “Zionist group.”
Soliman remains in federal custody. His preliminary hearing for the state charges, which now include first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and first-degree assault, is scheduled for July 15.
