Boulder, CO – An 82-year-old Boulder woman has died from injuries sustained in a firebombing attack last month, leading the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office to file two counts of first-degree murder against the suspect. Karen Diamond, one of 29 victims in the June 1 attack on Pearl Street Mall, succumbed to her severe injuries on June 25, authorities confirmed Monday.

Mohamed Soliman, the alleged assailant, now faces murder charges in connection with Diamond’s death, in addition to 12 federal hate crimes and over 100 state criminal charges. District Attorney Michael Dougherty expressed condolences, stating, “This horrific attack has now claimed the life of an innocent person who was beloved by her family and friends. Our hearts are with the Diamond family during this incredibly difficult time.” He added that his office is committed to fighting for justice for the victims and the community.

Leaders of the Boulder Jewish Community announced Diamond’s passing, highlighting her significant contributions as a cherished member, including her work with the University Women’s Club, Historic Boulder, and her synagogue. Governor Jared Polis also issued a statement, mourning Diamond’s loss and acknowledging her impact on the Boulder community, particularly within the Jewish community.

The attack occurred during a peaceful demonstration in support of Israeli hostages, where Soliman allegedly hurled Molotov cocktails at the group. Authorities stated that Soliman shouted “Free Palestine!” during the assault and admitted to planning the attack for over a year. Soliman, who pleaded not guilty to federal hate crimes on Friday, is scheduled to appear in state court again on July 15.
