British police have launched a criminal investigation into rap-punk duo Bob Vylan following their performance at the Glastonbury Festival on Saturday, June 28, where they led crowds in controversial chants including “death to the IDF.” The Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the probe, categorizing the incident as a public order offense.

The controversy deepened as the U.S. State Department announced it has revoked the U.S. visas for Bob Vylan, citing their “hateful tirade at Glastonbury.” The band was scheduled to tour the United States later this year. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stated that “Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country.”

The BBC, which livestreamed the performance, has expressed regret, stating that the “antisemitic sentiments expressed by Bob Vylan were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also condemned the chants as “appalling hate speech.”

Another band, Kneecap, is also under investigation for their pro-Palestinian chants and a controversial expletive-laden chant aimed at Starmer during their Glastonbury set.

In response to the backlash, Bob Vylan’s singer, Bobby Vylan, posted a statement on social media, emphasizing the importance of teaching children to “speak up for the change they want and need.” The incidents at Glastonbury highlight the heightened global tensions surrounding the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
