A pro-Palestinian demonstration in Boston Tuesday night escalated into violence, resulting in the arrest of thirteen individuals and injuries to four police officers. The incident occurred as approximately 200-300 protesters moved from Boston Common to Tremont Street, blocking traffic and obstructing emergency vehicle access.

According to police statements released Wednesday, many protesters concealed their faces and resisted dispersal efforts, chanting with amplified bullhorns. Officers attempting to clear the street were surrounded, with police cruisers kicked and several officers assaulted, including one struck in the face. Protesters also deployed smoke devices and flares, further endangering the scene.

Eight men and five women were taken into custody, all facing charges including resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace. Among those arrested, Roder Atwood, 21, of Somerville, also faces charges of assault and battery on a police officer and destruction of property. All 13 individuals are scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in Boston Municipal Court.

The four injured officers were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, while no arrestees required medical attention. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu condemned the violence, stating, “Boston will not tolerate violence, and we categorically condemn those who came into our community to attack our police officers. The individuals who engaged in these attacks must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” The protest coincided with the two-year anniversary of the Hamas-led terrorist attack on Israel.
