Montgomery, Alabama – A mass shooting erupted near downtown Montgomery late Saturday night, October 5, 2025, leaving two people dead and twelve others injured. Authorities are actively investigating the incident, with no arrests announced as of Monday morning.
The victims fatally shot were identified as 17-year-old Jeremiah Morris and 43-year-old Sholanda Williams. At least five of the injured were hospitalized with life-threatening conditions, and seven of the gunshot victims are under the age of 17, with the youngest being 16.
Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys stated that the gunfire began when an individual targeted in a disagreement returned fire, leading to multiple people in the crowd also drawing weapons and opening fire. Mayor Steven Reed characterized the event as stemming from an “avoidable disagreement” and announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible.
The incident occurred around 11:31 p.m. near the intersection of Bibbs and Commerce streets, less than a mile from the Alabama State Capitol. Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage as the search for suspects continues.
