New data confirms that artificial intelligence companies are overwhelmingly dominating venture capital investment in 2025, poised to capture over half of all VC money for the first time ever. According to PitchBook, VCs have already channeled $192.7 billion into AI ventures this year, out of a total $366.8 billion invested.

The trend intensified in the most recent quarter, with AI accounting for a staggering 62.7% of U.S. venture capital and 53.2% of global firm investments. This surge in funding has seen major AI players like Anthropic secure substantial rounds, including a $13 billion Series F in September.

However, this AI funding boom comes at the expense of other sectors. The overall number of startups and venture funds successfully raising capital has sharply declined to multi-year lows, with PitchBook reporting only 823 funds raised globally in 2025, a significant drop from 4,430 in 2022. Kyle Sanford, PitchBook’s director of research, characterizes the current market as ‘bifurcated,’ where investment success is increasingly tied to being an AI firm or an already established player.
