Authorities have officially released the identities of the three individuals tragically killed in a weekend shooting at a waterfront bar in Southport, North Carolina. The community is now preparing for a prayer vigil to honor the victims, while the accused gunman remains held without bond.

The City of Southport identified the deceased as 36-year-old Solomon Banjo of Charlottesville, Virginia; 64-year-old Joy Rogers of Southport; and 56-year-old Michael Durbin of Galena, Ohio. They were patrons at the American Fish Company, located along the Cape Fear River, when the fatal incident occurred on Saturday night. Five other individuals sustained injuries but have not been identified.

Joy Rogers, a beloved member of Generations Church, was remembered by her husband, Lennie Rogers, as a devoted wife and loving mother who had recently moved to Southport for retirement. “She lived up to her name — her spirit radiated joy, light and kindness everywhere she went,” Lennie Rogers told WECT.

The alleged shooter, 40-year-old Nigel Edge, a decorated Marine combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient, appeared in court on Monday. He faces three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of first-degree attempted murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. A judge ordered him held without bond, and prosecutors indicated they might seek the death penalty. Edge has not yet entered a plea, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for October 13.

A community prayer vigil is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, at the Southport Waterfront, offering a chance for remembrance and support for all affected by the tragedy.
