Torrential rainfall, exceeding 4 inches in 30 minutes in parts of northern West Virginia, triggered catastrophic flash flooding. At least four fatalities, including a child, have been confirmed, with several individuals still missing.

The deluge overwhelmed infrastructure, causing significant damage to roads, bridges, and natural gas lines, hampering rescue and recovery efforts. Over 19 swift water rescues were performed, utilizing drones and K-9 units in the search for the missing. Approximately 2,500 power outages were reported, further complicated by gas leaks requiring prioritization before power restoration.

Ohio County experienced the brunt of the impact, with widespread vehicle submersion and structural damage. Similar flooding events, albeit on a smaller scale, were reported in Fairmont, approximately 100 miles south. A partial building collapse was reported there, necessitating evacuations.

The Governor declared a state of emergency, mobilizing the National Guard and requesting FEMA assistance. Warnings remain in effect, urging citizens to avoid flooded areas and heed emergency directives.
