Albertsons Companies has initiated an urgent recall for several of its store-made deli products across more than a dozen states due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The supermarket giant announced Saturday it is pulling five specific deli items containing a recalled bowtie pasta ingredient from Nate’s Fine Foods, advising consumers to immediately dispose of these products or return them to any local store for a full refund.

Affected products include various ready-to-eat basil pesto pasta salad offerings and other pasta dishes featuring chicken, spinach, and additional ingredients. Customers can identify impacted items by checking the list of product names, sell-by dates, and other identifying information available on Albertsons’ website. The recalled goods were sold at Albertsons-owned stores, including Albertsons Market, Safeway, and Vons.

Albertsons stressed the serious health risks posed by Listeria, which can survive in refrigerated temperatures and easily spread to other foods and surfaces. The company recommends consumers exercise extreme vigilance in cleaning any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the recalled products, adhering to FDA guidelines.

Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with the Albertsons recall to date, this action follows wider warnings from U.S. health officials regarding potential Listeria contamination in ready-made meals from other retailers. Last week, the U.S. Agriculture Department issued a public health alert for specific Trader Joe’s “Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettuccine Alfredo” and Walmart’s “Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce,” which also utilized pasta from Nate’s Fine Foods.

Listeria infections can cause severe illness, particularly in high-risk groups such as older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, and convulsions. The CDC reports approximately 1,600 listeria infections and 260 deaths annually in the U.S.
