Emergency 911 calling systems across multiple parishes in Louisiana and counties in Mississippi, including major cities like New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and Jackson, have been fully restored after widespread outages on Friday afternoon. The disruption, which lasted several hours, was attributed to damage to AT&T fiber optic cables.

AT&T confirmed that services were operating normally across all impacted areas just before 6 p.m. local time, apologizing for the inconvenience caused by the service interruption. Officials in both states cited a severed fiber cable as the root cause, with no indication of malicious intent.

During the outage, residents were advised to use alternate non-emergency numbers, some of which also experienced increased call volumes or temporary issues. The incident affected numerous locations, including Jefferson and Tangipahoa parishes in Louisiana, and Forrest and Kemper counties in Mississippi. Verizon confirmed the outages stemmed from a network issue with another carrier, clarifying that landline customers were largely unaffected.
