Dallas ICE Office Shooting: Suspect Joshua Jahn’s Motive and Planning Emerge

New details are emerging regarding the deadly shooting at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Authorities have identified the suspect as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, who allegedly opened fire indiscriminately from a nearby rooftop, killing one detainee and wounding two others before taking his own life.
FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that Jahn allegedly left a handwritten note stating, “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?'” This, along with other evidence, points to a high degree of pre-attack planning. Investigations show Jahn allegedly downloaded a document titled “Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management” which contained a list of DHS facilities, and searched for apps that tracked ICE agents.
Further evidence includes recovered shell casings engraved with “ANTI ICE” messages, suggesting a strong anti-ICE motive. Patel also noted Jahn conducted multiple searches for ballistics and a specific video between September 23 and 24. While no law enforcement officers were injured, the Department of Homeland Security has condemned the incident as “an attack on ICE law enforcement.”
Childhood friends of Jahn, who had not seen him in approximately a decade, expressed shock, remembering him as primarily interested in video games and internet culture rather than politics. Records indicate Jahn briefly attended the University of Texas – Dallas over a decade ago. His online presence, including a Steam gaming profile with over 10,000 hours played and an inactive Reddit account, points to a past focused on gaming and marijuana use.
