YouTube has announced a series of user experience enhancements, including the long-awaited ability for viewers to hide recommendation pop-ups that appear at the end of videos. The company stated that users can now tap a new “Hide” button in the top-right corner of the video player to temporarily remove end screens for the specific video they are watching, addressing a common complaint about content being obscured.

This update is a direct response to user feedback, aiming to minimize distractions and allow viewers to focus more intently on the main video content. While the hide option is per-video, it offers greater control over the viewing experience. Creators retain the ability to add end screens, with YouTube anticipating a minimal impact on their performance, citing internal experiments showing less than a 1.5% decrease in views from end screens.

In a related change, YouTube is also removing the hover-to-subscribe button associated with video watermarks. This decision comes as the platform notes the redundancy of this feature, given the prominent Subscribe button already located directly below the video player. Data indicates that less than 0.05% of all channel subscriptions originated from the watermark hover functionality, suggesting this change will have negligible effects on creator growth.
