Meta’s New AI Ray-Ban Glasses Encounter Glitches During Connect 2025 Keynote

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s highly anticipated demonstration of the ‘next generation of Meta Ray-Ban glasses‘ was marred by multiple public failures during the company’s annual Meta Connect 2025 keynote, which concluded yesterday, September 18th.
The AI-powered smart glasses, priced at $799 and hitting the market on September 30th, are designed to offer enhanced capabilities like 3K video, double battery life, and continuous AI assistance. However, live demonstrations during the September 17th keynote revealed significant performance issues.
A segment featuring internet chef Jack Mancuso attempting to use the glasses for a Korean-inspired steak sauce recipe repeatedly failed. Despite Mancuso’s prompts, the AI system incorrectly assumed ingredients had already been combined, leading to a standstill. Mancuso attributed the problem to Wi-Fi issues before handing back to Zuckerberg.
Later, Zuckerberg himself struggled to initiate a live video call with Meta CTO Andrew ‘Boz’ Bosworth using the glasses and a paired wristband. “I don’t know what happened,” Zuckerberg admitted after multiple unsuccessful attempts. Bosworth eventually joined him on stage, where a successful demonstration of real-time subtitle generation between two wearers highlighted a potential game-changer for individuals with impaired hearing.
Zuckerberg downplayed the earlier glitches, quipping, “The irony of the whole thing is that you spend years making technology and then the Wi-Fi at the day kind of catches you.” Despite the setbacks, Meta aims for these new Ray-Ban Display glasses to transition Meta AI from an invoked query tool to a constant, assistive presence throughout the day.
