London Erupts: Far-Right Rally Sparks Violent Clashes, Dozens of Police Injured

Central London was gripped by widespread disorder this past Saturday as a massive rally organized by far-right activist Tommy Robinson drew an estimated 110,000 to 150,000 participants. The ‘Unite the Kingdom’ demonstration, centered on anti-migrant sentiments, escalated into violent clashes between Robinson’s supporters, counter-protesters, and police.
Metropolitan Police reported that 26 officers were injured during the skirmishes, with four sustaining serious harm including broken teeth, a concussion, and a spinal injury. Officers, some requiring riot shields and helmets, were subjected to punches, kicks, and thrown bottles as they worked to separate the groups and maintain order. At least 25 individuals have been arrested for offenses including violent disorder, assault, and criminal damage, with investigations ongoing.
Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist condemned the violence, stating, “There is no doubt that many came to exercise their lawful right to protest, but there were many who came intent on violence.” He highlighted the determined efforts to breach police cordons and the abuse directed at officers.
The rally featured speeches from influential figures such as far-right French politician Eric Zemmour and a video address from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, both of whom echoed anti-migrant rhetoric and criticized the current state of Britain. Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, told the crowd that migrants now held more rights than the British public.
This major event coincides with heightened national tensions over migration across the English Channel and follows a summer marked by numerous anti-migrant protests. A rival ‘March Against Fascism’ protest also took place, leading to tense confrontations throughout the day.
