More than 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees are subject to an urgent recall due to a critical software error that could lead to an unexpected loss of drive power, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, affecting 91,787 plug-in hybrid electric models from the 2022 to 2026 model years.

Chrysler, the manufacturer, issued the recall on Thursday, acknowledging a software flaw within the Jeep’s hybrid control processor. This defect, as stated by the NHTSA, “may result in a loss of drive power” without prior warning, posing a severe safety hazard to drivers and others on the road.

As of August 18, Chrysler reported no knowledge of any injuries or accidents directly linked to this defect. Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company, has yet to comment publicly on the matter.

Owners of affected vehicles can check their VIN on the NHTSA’s website starting September 11, 2025, to determine if their vehicle is included in the recall. A remedy is currently under development, and recall notification letters are scheduled to be mailed to owners beginning October 23, 2025. For immediate concerns, owners can contact Chrysler’s customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
