Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged Sunday that Israel is “paying the price” on the global diplomatic and public relations stage due to its ongoing war in Gaza. Speaking at a weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Netanyahu emphasized his commitment to achieving military victory, even if it comes at the cost of international standing.

Amid persistent international condemnation and a declared famine in parts of Gaza by a UN hunger monitor last week, Netanyahu stated, “If I have to choose between victory over our enemies and bad propaganda against us, I choose victory.” His comments follow recent remarks by former US President Donald Trump, who suggested Israel might be winning the war but losing the public relations battle.

The Israeli cabinet, however, postponed discussions on establishing a new public diplomacy unit aimed at countering anti-Israel messaging, reportedly due to disagreements between Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. This delay highlights ongoing internal challenges within Israel’s public diplomacy apparatus, which has faced difficulties since the conflict began in October 2023. The offensive in Gaza has reportedly led to over 64,000 casualties, with Israel asserting it has killed more than 22,000 combatants as of August.
