An 11-year-old boy was tragically pronounced dead at a Houston hospital on Sunday, following a shooting incident Saturday night. According to city officials, the boy was shot while running from a home after ringing its doorbell, a common game known as “doorbell ditch.”

The incident, which occurred on the 9700 block of Racine Street, prompted a swift police response. A person was initially detained for questioning but has since been released. The shooting was reported approximately an hour before midnight on Saturday, and the young victim was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

NBC affiliate KPRC of Houston indicated that more than one child was participating in the game at the time of the shooting, and the victim was initially hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities confirm the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event is ongoing.
