Michael Paul Brown, the man accused of a quadruple murder at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, is scheduled to make his initial district court appearance on September 3. Brown faces four counts of murder following an alleged shooting incident that left a bartender and three patrons dead on August 1.

Brown evaded authorities for a week after the killings, prompting a massive manhunt involving hundreds of law enforcement officers, helicopters, and drones in the nearby mountains. He was eventually apprehended on August 8 inside an unoccupied structure near a state highway.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a potential motive for the 45-year-old former soldier, though his niece has previously stated Brown struggled with mental illness. Brown is currently being held on $2 million bail and is represented by attorney Walter Hennessey.

The State Department of Justice has confirmed that the probe into the incident is ongoing, with investigators also examining whether Brown received any assistance while he was on the run. A conviction for murder in Montana, known as deliberate homicide, can carry the death penalty, though executions in the state have been on hold since 2015.
