Early Pixel 10 Buyers Report Widespread Wireless Charging Issues After Launch

Just days after the highly anticipated Google Pixel 10 series began arriving on doorsteps, early adopters are reporting significant issues with wireless charging. Users across various platforms, including Reddit and tip lines, are experiencing problems ranging from intermittent charging to drastically reduced speeds with their new devices.

The reported issues manifest in two primary ways. Some Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 XL owners are finding that their devices initiate charging wirelessly but abruptly stop after a few seconds or minutes. Another widespread concern is severely limited charging speeds, with some chargers only delivering a mere 5W. This slow charging has been observed with older Qi chargers, including the Pixel Stand 2nd Gen, and even some MagSafe-compatible accessories.

While the exact cause is still under investigation, early speculation points to the recent Qi2 update and the shift to the magnetic power profile (MPP) from the extended power profile (EPP). Both MPP and EPP support up to 15W, but MPP’s reliance on magnetic alignment for optimal performance may be causing compatibility issues with non-Qi2 certified chargers. For the Pixel Stand 2nd Gen specifically, it’s suggested that Google’s proprietary fast-charging method has been integrated into the new Qi2 standard, potentially rendering older methods incompatible.

For now, new Pixel 10 owners experiencing these challenges are advised that their best bet for full-speed, reliable wireless charging is to use a charger with Qi2 certification.
