Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi Killed in Israeli Airstrike, Rebels Confirm

Sanaa, Yemen – The Houthi rebel movement has announced that its prime minister, Ahmed al-Rahawi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on Thursday. The statement, issued by the Iranian-backed group on Saturday, claims several other ministers were also killed in the attack.
Israel’s military confirmed on Thursday that it had “precisely struck a Houthi terrorist regime military target in the area of Sanaa in Yemen,” though it did not specifically mention al-Rahawi or other casualties. Al-Rahawi had served as prime minister of the Houthi-led government since August 2024.
The rebels assert that al-Rahawi and other government members were targeted during a routine workshop. This incident escalates tensions in an already volatile region, where Houthis have repeatedly launched missiles against Israel and targeted Red Sea shipping in solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Both Israel and a U.S.-led coalition have previously conducted retaliatory strikes against Houthi-held areas in Yemen.
