Google is rolling out significant enhancements to its Gemini Live AI assistant, set to debut with the new Pixel 10 devices launching next week on August 28th. These updates promise to transform how users interact with the AI, making it more intuitive and deeply integrated into daily tasks.

A standout new feature is Gemini Live’s ability to provide real-time visual guidance. Users can point their smartphone camera at objects, and Gemini Live will highlight specific items directly on the screen, simplifying tasks like identifying the correct tool for a project. This visual aid will initially be exclusive to the Pixel 10 at launch, with a broader rollout to other Android devices concurrently, and iOS in the coming weeks.

Further expanding its utility, Gemini Live will soon integrate with core apps such as Messages, Phone, and Clock. This allows for seamless multitasking; for instance, users can interrupt a conversation about directions to instantly draft a text message informing someone they’re running late. The AI will also be capable of initiating phone calls and drafting messages on demand.

Rounding out the improvements, Google is introducing an advanced audio model for Gemini Live. This upgrade will dramatically enhance the chatbot’s use of human speech elements like intonation, rhythm, and pitch, allowing it to adapt its tone based on the conversation’s context. Users will also gain control over Gemini’s speaking pace and may even experience character-specific accents for more engaging narrative retellings.
