The custom transitions tool, launched this week, enables users to seamlessly blend tracks, offering options for automatic transitions or manual customization with effects like fade, rise, and blend.

This innovative update provides advanced control over the listening experience. Users can adjust settings such as volume, EQ, and various effects, utilizing waveform and beat data to precisely time transitions between songs. To simplify the process for all users, Spotify will automatically display the key and beats per minute for each track.

Aimed at enhancing the experience for both casual listeners and dedicated playlist curators, this feature bolsters Spotify’s offerings, putting it in direct competition with similar upcoming functionalities from rivals like Apple Music’s AutoMix.

Premium subscribers can now save, share, and even collaborate on these custom-mixed playlists. The transition effect can be toggled on or off at any time, providing flexibility. Spotify recommends the feature works particularly well with genres like house and techno, which are naturally conducive to seamless blending. The custom transitions are currently rolling out globally to eligible Premium users who have updated their Spotify app on iOS or Android, with certain markets in the APAC region to follow.
