MSNBC is set to undergo a significant transformation later this year, officially changing its name to My Source News Opinion World, or ‘MS Now,’ and retiring its iconic peacock logo. This move marks the first major public-facing change as Versant prepares for its upcoming separation from Comcast’s NBCUniversal.

The rebranding initiative was revealed in an internal memo to employees from Versant Chief Executive Officer Mark Lazarus, seen by CNBC. While Lazarus had previously indicated no name change in January, NBCUniversal leaders decided over recent months that a new identity was crucial to distinguish MSNBC from NBC News organizations.

MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler affirmed in her own memo that despite the name change, the network’s core focus and commitment to its audience will remain unwavering. The network has been aggressively expanding its independent newsroom, hiring approximately 40 journalists for its first-ever Washington, D.C., bureau, part of a plan to fill 100 new positions.

The name change and new logos will be implemented before the end of the year, coinciding with Versant’s planned spin-off as a publicly traded company. MSNBC is also slated to launch a major national marketing campaign to support the new brand.
