Apple Shifts Focus to AI Smart Glasses, Shelves Vision Pro Overhaul Amidst Race with Meta

Apple is reportedly reallocating resources from its Vision Pro virtual reality headset to prioritize the development of advanced AI smart glasses. This strategic shift, detailed in a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, signals Apple’s intent to intensify its competition with rivals like Meta in the burgeoning smart wearables market.
While plans for a more affordable and lighter Vision Pro model were underway, Apple has reportedly moved staff from that project to accelerate its smart glasses initiatives. The tech giant is said to be working on at least two distinct models. The first, codenamed N50, is designed to pair seamlessly with an iPhone and will not feature its own display. Apple is reportedly aiming to unveil this model as early as next year, with a projected release in 2027.
The second version of smart glasses in development will include an integrated display, directly positioning it against products such as the Meta Ray-Ban Display, which was unveiled recently. Initially slated for a 2028 release, Apple is now reportedly expediting the development of this more advanced model. Despite this renewed focus, Apple still faces a challenge in catching up to Meta, which first entered the smart glasses market in 2021.
