DOJ Staffer Fired, Charged After Alleged Sandwich Assault on Federal Agent in D.C.

A Justice Department employee has been fired and charged with a felony after admitting to throwing a sandwich at a federal law enforcement officer in Washington, D.C. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the dismissal and charges on Thursday, emphasizing a strict stance against disrespect towards government and law enforcement.
The incident occurred on Sunday, when Sean Dunn allegedly threw a ‘submarine-style sandwich’ at a Customs and Border Patrol officer stationed at a busy Northwest D.C. intersection. Charging documents, filed August 13, 2025, include video evidence showing Dunn yelling at officers before the assault and attempting to flee. He reportedly confessed upon arrest, stating, “I did it. I threw a sandwich.”
Bondi announced Dunn’s termination via a post on X, stating, “Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony.” She further characterized the incident as an example of the “Deep State” her administration is working to counter. Dunn, who worked in the Office of International Affairs within the department’s Criminal Division, faces one count of assaulting federal law enforcement. No plea has been entered, and a hearing date has not yet been set.
The U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, reiterated support for law enforcement in a video statement following the arrest. The deployment of federal law enforcement and National Guard members in D.C. aims to address crime, despite recent data indicating a decline in the city’s crime rates.
