American teen influencer Ethan Guo, who garnered international attention after being stranded in Antarctica for weeks following an unauthorized landing, has seen all charges against him dropped. The resolution came as part of an agreement with Chilean prosecutors, requiring Guo to make a $30,000 donation to a children’s cancer foundation within 30 days to avoid trial.

Guo, who embarked on a mission to become the youngest person to fly solo to all seven continents and raise $1 million for childhood cancer research, had been stuck in a remote Chilean territory in Antarctica since June. He was detained and subsequently charged on June 29 with providing false flight plan data and landing without authorization after flying his Cessna 182Q to King George Island, an area Chile claims ownership of, despite being authorized only for Punta Arenas.

Although not forcibly detained, Guo was required to remain in Chilean territory. Severe winter conditions prevented him from flying out or having his plane serviced. Under the agreement, Guo must depart Chile as soon as conditions permit and is barred from re-entering Chilean territory for three years. He is also responsible for all costs related to his aircraft’s security, personal maintenance during his stay, and his return journey.

Guo expressed relief at the outcome via text message and is now awaiting approval for his departure flight. He is also consulting with his lawyer regarding the possibility of continuing his original global flying mission.
