Massive Manhunt Underway for Suspect in Deadly Anaconda Bar Shooting; Reward Offered

A massive, multi-agency manhunt continues to intensify across Montana for Michael Paul Brown, 45, who remains at large days after allegedly gunning down four people at The Owl Bar in Anaconda on Friday, August 1, 2025. Authorities have confirmed there has been no confirmed sighting of Brown since the deadly shooting.
Thirty-eight local, state, and federal agencies are relentlessly pursuing Brown, an Army veteran who served in the Iraq War. Montana Governor Greg Gianforte stressed the “unrelenting” nature of the search during a news conference on Tuesday, August 5, signing an executive order to allocate emergency response funds to support law enforcement efforts, including overtime.
Brown is suspected of opening fire at the bar, killing bartender Nancy Loretta Kelly, 64, and patrons Daniel Edwin Bailey, 59; David Allen Leach, 70; and Tony Wayne Palm, 74. Investigators believe Brown, who lived next door to The Owl Bar, was familiar with most of his victims.
Described as armed and extremely dangerous, Brown is known to law enforcement. The U.S. Marshals Service has offered a $10,000 reward for any information leading to his capture. Authorities urge anyone with information to call 1-877-WANTED2. The community remains on edge as the search for the fugitive continues.
