Meta has confirmed a substantial strategic investment in data-labeling powerhouse Scale AI, valued at $29 billion. The tech giant has acquired a 49% stake in Scale AI, committing approximately $14.3 billion to the deal.

Crucially, as part of this landmark partnership, Scale AI co-founder and CEO Alexandr Wang is stepping down from his leadership role to join Meta. Wang will dedicate his expertise to Meta’s burgeoning artificial intelligence division, specifically focusing on its superintelligence endeavors.

Scale AI, a critical provider of data for training large language models that underpin much of the generative AI landscape, will remain an independent entity. Jason Droege, currently Scale’s chief strategy officer, will assume the role of interim CEO. The investment is earmarked for fueling growth and compensating existing investors and shareholders.

This significant move by Meta underscores its intensified efforts to accelerate its AI capabilities and compete more aggressively with industry leaders like Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic in the race for advanced AI development.
