Google is rolling out a significant suite of artificial intelligence features directly into its Chrome browser, marking what the company calls the ‘biggest upgrade to Chrome in its history.’ U.S. users are now gaining access to ‘AI Mode’ within the address bar, alongside the powerful Gemini AI model integrated across the browser.

This comprehensive update introduces several key functionalities designed to streamline web interaction and enhance user safety. AI Mode in the address bar allows for conversational questions and deeper web exploration without navigating away from the current page. Contextual prompts, aware of the content being viewed, generate AI Overviews directly on the screen, facilitating continuous AI-powered research.

Gemini in Chrome is now available for Mac and Windows users in the U.S., offering capabilities such as summarizing complex information across multiple tabs, consolidating details, and integrating with other Google services like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps. Future updates promise agentic capabilities, enabling Gemini to perform tasks like booking appointments or placing orders directly from the browser.

Security also sees a major overhaul with Gemini Nano enhancing Safe Browsing to detect sophisticated tech-support scams and block fake virus alerts. Chrome will leverage AI to reduce intrusive spam notifications and permission prompts. Additionally, an upcoming feature will allow for one-click automatic changes for compromised passwords on supported sites, significantly boosting user security.

These features are part of a staged rollout, with plans for international expansion and enterprise-grade protections through Workspace in the coming weeks, signaling a new era of intelligent and secure web browsing.
