Seven Children Dead, 21 Injured in Devastating Rajasthan School Roof Collapse

A tragic school roof collapse in India’s western state of Rajasthan on Friday has resulted in the deaths of seven children and left at least 21 others injured. The incident occurred at a government middle school in Piplod village, Jhalawar district, shortly after students arrived for classes and before the school assembly began.
Police official Amit Kumar confirmed that all seven fatalities were students from seventh and eighth grade. Frantic rescue efforts by parents, teachers, and locals immediately followed the collapse, as they sifted through mounds of debris to free trapped students. The injured have been transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Local official Ajay Singh stated that while the district administration had recently requested a list of dilapidated school buildings, this particular school was not on it. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy in a social media post, calling it “tragic” and “deeply saddening,” and assuring that authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected families.
