Gaza Aid Convoy Attack: Dozens Killed Awaiting Supplies, UN Condemns Violence

Reports from Gaza indicate that Israeli forces have killed at least 67 Palestinians who were waiting for humanitarian aid lorries in northern Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) confirmed its 25-truck convoy encountered “massive crowds of hungry civilians which came under gunfire” shortly after clearing checkpoints. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated it fired “warning shots” to address an “immediate threat” and disputed the reported death toll.
This incident follows a dire warning from the ministry regarding increasing extreme hunger, with hundreds at risk of imminent death. The UN has also urged for an urgent influx of essential goods due to widespread starvation. On Sunday, the ministry recorded 18 deaths due to famine within 24 hours. Shifa hospital in Gaza City was reportedly “overwhelmed” with casualties, with one woman describing the entire population as dying, relying on water and salt for survival.
Gaza’s civil defence agency updated the total death toll from Sunday’s Israeli fire across Gaza to 93, including 80 in northern Gaza, nine near an aid point in Rafah, and four near an aid point in Khan Younis. Witnesses described chaotic scenes, with tanks firing shells randomly and sniper fire. The WFP condemned the violence against civilians seeking aid as “completely unacceptable,” highlighting surging malnutrition among 90,000 women and children and nearly one in three people going days without food. Reports of Palestinians being killed while seeking food have been almost daily since late May, with previous incidents including 32 deaths near aid distribution points in southern Gaza on Saturday.
