Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 40-year-old man who was discovered living in a fully outfitted crawl space beneath a condo near Happy Valley, Oregon. The unusual discovery unfolded late Wednesday evening after a witness reported suspicious activity.

Authorities were called to a condo complex after a resident observed an unknown man parking his car and heading towards the back of a building, where a crawl space door was open with a light visible inside. Upon arrival, deputies found the crawl space door locked and damaged, with an extension cord running through a vent. The condo owner, who had previously heard strange noises, confirmed no one should be in the space.

After breaching the door, deputies found Beniamin Bucur residing in the crawl space, which had been converted into a living area complete with a bed, lights, televisions, chargers, and other electronics, all powered by the condo’s electricity. Bucur also appeared to have changed the locks on the crawl space doors. A meth pipe was also recovered from the scene.

Bucur was booked into Clackamas County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. His bail has been set at $75,000.
