Google Launches Doppl: AI App Lets You Virtually Try On Outfits

Google has unveiled Doppl, an innovative experimental app leveraging artificial intelligence to allow users to visualize how various outfits would appear on them. The company announced the launch on Thursday, making the app immediately available for both iOS and Android users within the U.S.
Doppl is designed to offer a virtual try-on experience. Users begin by uploading a full-body photograph of themselves. They can then select photos or screenshots of desired outfits—whether from a thrift store, a friend, or social media—to virtually drape them onto their digital avatar. The app generates an image of the user’s virtual self wearing the chosen attire and can even convert these static images into AI-generated videos, providing a more dynamic sense of how the outfit would look in real life.
Users can save their preferred looks, browse their virtual try-on history, and share their styles with others. This new app builds upon Google Shopping’s existing virtual try-on features, aiming to make the functionality more accessible and interactive through a standalone application. Google hopes Doppl will facilitate style exploration and gather valuable data for future AI-powered fashion initiatives.
While Google previously offered virtual try-on technology that showcased items on diverse models, Doppl distinguishes itself by allowing users to try clothes on an animated version of their own body. Google stated in a blog post, “We hope Doppl helps you explore your style in new and exciting ways.” As a Google Labs experiment, the company notes that Doppl is in its early stages, and fit, appearance, and clothing details may not always be perfectly accurate.
The tech giant has not yet disclosed plans for Doppl’s availability in regions outside the U.S.
