Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has issued a stark warning, declaring that Europe is now engaged in a ‘hybrid war’ following a series of disruptive drone attacks that have forced the closure of multiple airports across Denmark this week.

Addressing the nation on Thursday, Frederiksen revealed that while authorities are still working to identify the perpetrators behind these ‘hybrid attacks’ targeting airports and other critical infrastructure, there is an ‘obvious antagonist,’ subtly pointing to Russia. The Prime Minister emphasized that these airspace breaches indicate ‘we are at the beginning of a hybrid war against Europe,’ cautioning that more such incidents are likely.

The week’s disruptions began with drone incursions forcing the temporary closure of Copenhagen and Oslo airports on Monday, leading to numerous flight cancellations and stranding thousands of passengers. The situation escalated overnight Wednesday when Danish authorities again shut down two major airports after drones were sighted, with several other airports nationwide reporting similar incidents, which Copenhagen described as a ‘hybrid attack’ by a ‘professional actor.’
