According to the Houthi-run government’s health ministry, the Israeli strikes resulted in the deaths of eight people and injured 142 others, with civilian facilities and residential buildings reportedly hit. Health ministry spokesman Dr. Anees al-Asbahi condemned the actions as a “brutal crime” and a “war crime,” accusing the IDF of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. This escalation follows a Houthi drone attack a day prior, which injured 22 people, two seriously, in the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat.
The Houthis, who control much of north-western Yemen, began launching attacks on Israel and international shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden shortly after the commencement of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza in October 2023, stating their actions are in support of Palestinians.
