Two individuals were hospitalized after sustaining injuries in a brown bear attack on Wednesday, September 24, near Seward, Alaska. The incident occurred on a popular trail in the Exit Glacier area, prompting the immediate closure of the trail within Kenai Fjords National Park until further notice.

Alaska State Troopers confirmed that the hospital notified them late Wednesday evening, just after 9 p.m., regarding the attack. Both victims reportedly ‘had to fight off the bear’ and, while their injuries are not life-threatening, they required medical attention.

Local biologists, Alaska State Troopers, and Alaska Wildlife Troopers were dispatched to the scene and began assessing the area at first light on Thursday, September 25. Authorities have strongly advised the public to avoid the Exit Glacier area as investigations continue.

This incident marks another in a series of bear encounters reported this season in the region. Park officials are reiterating warnings for visitors to adhere to bear safety guidelines, which include carrying bear spray, making noise, hiking in groups, and refraining from bringing dogs on trails to minimize wildlife stress.

Further details regarding the encounter are expected as this remains a developing story.
