Hero Father Hailed as Suspect Faces Murder Charges in Nashua Country Club Shooting

NASHUA, N.H. – Legal proceedings are underway today for Hunter Nadeau, 23, who is expected to be arraigned on second-degree murder charges following a fatal shooting at Sky Meadow Country Club on Saturday. The victim, Robert Steven DeCesare, 59, is being hailed as a hero by his family and the club owner for reportedly sacrificing his life to protect his wife and daughter during a wedding celebration.

DeCesare was fatally shot when Nadeau, a former employee, allegedly opened fire at the Nashua club. “He turned around and stood up and took a bullet for his family,” Evie O’Rourke, DeCesare’s mother, told NBC Boston. His widow, Charlene DeCesare, echoed this sentiment, stating, “In our hearts, he’s a hero,” believing he was trying to protect her and their daughter, whose November wedding he was discussing at dinner.

Police reported the attack lasted under a minute before Nadeau left the premises and was subsequently arrested. The autopsy for DeCesare is also scheduled for today, Monday. Two other individuals were shot in the attack and are reportedly recovering; additional charges against Nadeau related to these victims are anticipated.

Authorities have not yet announced a motive for the shooting, nor have they confirmed witness reports that the suspect shouted “Free Palestine.” DeCesare’s widow cautioned against “speculation and utter nonsense” regarding the incident, emphasizing the difficulty it creates for those involved and for police investigators.

Rob Parsons, owner of Sky Meadow Country Club, praised DeCesare as a “hero” and expressed gratitude for the “courageous acts of patrons and employees who acted to stop further tragedy,” calling the incident the “heinous act of a coward.”
