Vice President JD Vance, hosting ‘The Charlie Kirk Show’ from the White House on Monday, September 15, 2025, publicly attributed the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk to “left-wing extremism.” Vance’s remarks came as the Trump administration intensified its rhetoric against political violence, with top officials pledging to dismantle alleged “domestic terror movements.”

During the podcast, Vance stated, “Of course, we have to make sure that the killer is brought to justice… And importantly, we have to talk about this incredibly destructive movement of left-wing extremism that has grown up over the last few years and, I believe, is part of the reason why Charlie was killed by an assassin’s bullet.” White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller echoed this sentiment, vowing to “uproot and dismantle these terrorist networks” using resources from the Department of Justice and Homeland Security.

Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at a college campus event in Utah on September 10. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested and is currently under investigation. FBI co-Deputy Director Dan Bongino reported that Robinson had an “obsession” with Kirk and had become more political, though the precise motive for the shooting remains unclear. Online records show Robinson is an unaffiliated, inactive voter.

President Donald Trump has also predominantly blamed the “radical left” for political violence, while Democrats have criticized the administration’s “finger pointing.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned against escalating tensions, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg cautioned against government crackdowns on groups for political challenge rather than violence, emphasizing the need for free debate.

Vance concluded his remarks by urging listeners to confront those celebrating Kirk’s death online, even suggesting contacting their employers. The Vice President emphasized that honoring Kirk meant to “shine the light of truth like a torch in the very darkest places.”
