77th Emmy Awards: ‘Adolescence’ Dominates, Owen Cooper Makes History
The 77th Emmy Awards concluded Sunday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrating a remarkable year in television. The breakout Netflix hit ‘Adolescence’ was the night’s biggest winner, taking home six awards, including its 15-year-old star Owen Cooper making history as the youngest male recipient ever in any acting category.
Co-creator Stephen Graham, who secured three Emmys for his work on ‘Adolescence,’ reflected on the unexpected success, stating, “This kind of thing doesn’t happen to a kid like me.”
Apple TV+’s ‘The Studio’ also had a significant night, earning four awards, including Best Comedy Series. This triumph established ‘The Studio’ as the most awarded comedy ever at the Emmys, adding to its nine wins from last week’s Creative Arts Emmys.
HBO Max’s ‘The Pitt’ secured three awards, notably Best Drama Series, triumphing over strong contenders such as ‘The White Lotus’ and ‘Severance.’ ‘Severance’ star Tramell Tillman also marked a historic moment, becoming the first Black actor to win the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Host Nate Bargatze kept the audience entertained with a unique fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of America, pledging a personal donation of $250,000, with an additional $100,000 from CBS, to encourage shorter acceptance speeches.
