Del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Ignites Venice with Record-Breaking Ovation

Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated ‘Frankenstein’ made a powerful debut at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday night, receiving a rapturous 13-minute standing ovation – the longest of the festival so far. Stars Oscar Isaac, portraying the titular mad scientist, and Jacob Elordi, embodying his monstrous creation, were visibly moved to tears by the overwhelming applause.
The emotional premiere saw del Toro, Isaac, and Elordi share multiple embraces on stage, with Elordi receiving a tender kiss on the cheek from Isaac amidst the sustained applause. The gothic sci-fi epic, a fresh retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic, is a strong contender for the prestigious Golden Lion award, and is already generating buzz as a potential awards season frontrunner for Netflix.
Co-stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Felix Kammerer also attended the star-studded premiere. ‘Frankenstein’ is slated for a theatrical release on October 17, followed by its debut on Netflix on November 7.
