Prosecutors Detail Abuse in Baby Emmanuel Haro Murder Case, Parents Await Arraignment

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Prosecutors have revealed that 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro suffered from long-term abuse before his death, with authorities now stating they have a strong indication of where his remains are located. Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin announced these developments during a news conference on Wednesday, following the murder charges filed against Emmanuel’s parents.
Rebecca and Jake Haro, both facing murder charges, appeared in court Tuesday for a brief hearing where a $1 million bail was set for each. Their arraignment is scheduled to continue on September 4. The couple is also charged with making a false police report, stemming from Rebecca Haro’s initial claim on August 14 that her baby had been kidnapped after an alleged attack in Yucaipa.
During the press conference, District Attorney Hestrin criticized a previous judicial decision involving Jake Haro. Two years prior, Jake Haro pleaded guilty to child abuse concerning another infant child but received probation and work-release instead of prison time. Hestrin called the judge’s decision an ‘outrageous error in judgement,’ asserting that ‘If that judge had done his job as he should have done, Emmanuel would be alive today.’
Authorities arrested the parents last week at their Cabazon home after they reportedly stopped cooperating with investigators. Despite not yet recovering Emmanuel’s body, law enforcement officials are confident in their ongoing investigation into the presumed death of the infant.
