Robin Westman Identified as Suspect in Deadly Minneapolis School Shooting; Motive Probed

Minneapolis authorities have identified 23-year-old Robin Westman as the suspect responsible for the deadly shooting at Annunciation Church and Catholic School on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. The tragic incident claimed the lives of two children, aged 8 and 10, and left 17 others injured after the gunman opened fire through church windows.

Police confirmed Westman died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect, described as a female, reportedly used a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, all of which were purchased lawfully and recently. Additional firearms are also being recovered from related residences as the investigation continues.

Further details emerging reveal that Westman’s mother worked as a parish secretary at Annunciation Church until her retirement in 2021. Driver’s license information and a 2020 name change application, which changed Robert Westman to Robin Westman to reflect her identification as a female, have also been reviewed by authorities.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem condemned Westman as a “deranged monster,” while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey urged the public to focus on the victims and avoid using the tragedy to “villainize our trans community, or any other community out there,” emphasizing a need for common humanity.
