Legal proceedings have commenced for four U.S. Army soldiers accused in connection with the sexual assault of a college student at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in October. The cases, which involve multiple serious charges, are currently underway, with hearings and trials scheduled to continue through November 2025.

The four soldiers — Cpl. Pedro Angel Ruiz, Pvt. 2nd Class Deron J. Gordon, Spc. Jadon Bosarge, and Pfc. Kallon Curiel — were charged in April following an incident that occurred in barracks at the Washington base. The victim, who was a college student at the time of the assault, has since been commissioned as an officer.

According to Michelle McCaskill, spokesperson for the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel, the soldiers face a range of severe charges. Cpl. Pedro Angel Ruiz, 29, is slated for a court-martial in November, facing charges including attempted sexual assault, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice. Pvt. 2nd Class Deron J. Gordon, 20, has already pleaded guilty to charges including sexual assault and abusive sexual contact, with a hearing scheduled for September 3.

Spc. Jadon Bosarge, 24, and Pfc. Kallon Curiel, 24, are also charged with multiple counts of sexual assault, indecent recording, and conspiracy. Notably, Curiel faces additional charges of sexual assault of a child and sexual assault without consent stemming from an alleged incident in Arizona.

The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel alleges that the sexual assaults occurred simultaneously with all charged soldiers present. Each defendant faces the potential of decades in prison, with sexual assault and conspiracy to commit sexual assault each carrying up to 30-year sentences per specification. The military justice system continues to process these high-profile cases at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
