Fort Stewart Sergeant Charged with Attempted Murder, Domestic Violence in Base Shooting

Sgt. Quornelius Radford, the Army sergeant accused of shooting five fellow soldiers at Fort Stewart last week, has been formally charged with multiple counts including attempted premeditated murder, aggravated assault, and domestic violence. The charges were announced following Radford’s initial appearance in a military courtroom on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, where he was ordered to remain in pretrial confinement.
One of the five wounded soldiers was identified as Radford’s “intimate partner,” leading to the domestic violence specification in the charges. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when Radford allegedly opened fire on co-workers at the Georgia Army base using his personal weapon. A sixth soldier was reportedly shot at but not hit.
Following the hearing, Radford is slated for transfer to the brig at Joint Base Charleston in South Carolina. Under military law, attempted murder carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment. Pretrial proceedings will now determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to a court-martial.
Fort Stewart officials have not disclosed a motive for the shooting. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll had previously visited the base to commend soldiers who provided immediate first aid and helped restrain the gunman, awarding them Meritorious Service Medals.
