A powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Sindirgi district of Balikesir province in western Turkey on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at approximately 19:53 local time. The Turkish disaster management agency (AFAD) confirmed that the tremor resulted in at least one fatality and dozens of injuries. The shallow quake, with an epicentre depth of around 10-11 kilometres, caused approximately a dozen buildings to collapse in the affected area. Residents across several western Turkish provinces, including Manisa, Izmir, Uşak, and Bursa, reported feeling the significant shaking as emergency teams assess the full extent of the damage.
