New information from the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office reveals that deputies were actively searching for Bradford Gille, the suspect in the recent Traverse City Walmart stabbing, the day before the violent incident occurred. The search, conducted on Friday, July 25, 2025, was initiated after the office received a court order from the State of Michigan’s 7th Probate Court of Emmet County instructing Gille’s immediate apprehension.

Authorities faced challenges locating Gille, as the court order identified him as homeless with no known physical address within Emmet County. Deputies spent Friday evening extensively patrolling and searching for the suspect, less than 24 hours before the attack unfolded.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is now seeking to charge Bradford Gille, 42, of Afton, Michigan, with terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder following the mass stabbing at the Traverse City Walmart on Saturday, July 26, 2025. During a press conference on Sunday, July 27, 2025, Sheriff Mike Shea disclosed that Gille has a documented history of assaultive incidents and controlled substance violations. The weapon used in the attack was described as a 3.5-inch folding knife, which sent 11 individuals to the hospital.
