Authorities in Costa Rica confirmed that Warner drowned off the coast of the Central American nation on Sunday. His official cause of death was determined to be asphyxia.
Costa Rican National Police reported that Warner was discovered Sunday afternoon near Cocles, a beach in Limon, after being caught by a high current. He was formally identified by the national police.
Warner’s career spanned decades, beginning with his breakthrough role on “The Cosby Show,” which ran from 1985 to 1992, earning him an Emmy nomination. He later starred in the sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie” and “Reed Between the Lines,” and had recurring roles in popular dramas like “The Resident.” Beyond acting, Warner was also an accomplished musician, earning a Grammy Award in 2015 and a Grammy nomination in 2023 for his spoken word poetry album “Hiding In Plain View.” In June 2024, he launched the podcast “Not All Hood,” focusing on mental health within the Black community.
