The Unicode Consortium has officially announced the upcoming release of Unicode 17.0, slated to launch on September 9, 2025. This highly anticipated update will introduce a fresh batch of emojis, including a new addition that many are calling the ‘Bigfoot’ emoji, officially named ‘Hairy Creature’.

While the ‘Hairy Creature’ emoji is clearly reminiscent of the legendary cryptid, its generic name reflects Unicode’s global approach, avoiding region-specific terms in favor of broader applicability across cultures. Alongside this much-discussed addition, Unicode 17.0 will also feature a Trombone, Treasure Chest, Distorted Face, Fight Cloud, Apple Core, Orca, and Ballet Dancers.

Users can expect these new emojis to roll out to their Android and iOS devices shortly after the September standard update, bringing new ways to express themselves in digital conversations.
