Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Flip 7, Setting Stage for Foldable Showdown with Motorola Razr Ultra

Samsung has officially unveiled its highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip 7 at the recent July Galaxy Unpacked event. The new foldable device debuts with a refreshed cover screen and a slightly slimmer profile, maintaining its predecessor’s $1,100 price point, a strategic move contrasting the new $2,000 Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The Z Flip 7 immediately enters a head-to-head battle with Motorola’s $1,300 Razr Ultra. While the Razr Ultra carries a higher price tag, Motorola justifies it with several enhancements, including support for a 165Hz refresh rate on both its cover and internal displays, surpassing the Flip 7’s still smooth 120Hz.
Camera specifications also differ significantly. The Razr Ultra boasts three 50-megapixel cameras for its wide, ultrawide, and selfie lenses. In contrast, the Z Flip 7 features a 50-megapixel wide, 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel selfie camera. Design-wise, the Razr Ultra offers unique material options like wood or Alcantara fabric, along with a starting storage of 512GB, double the Flip 7’s base 256GB, though the Flip 7’s 512GB model remains more affordable at $1,220.
Despite its higher cost, the Z Flip 7 presents its own advantages. It features a slightly larger 4.1-inch cover screen compared to the Razr’s 4-inch, though its internal display is marginally smaller at 6.9 inches versus the Razr’s 7 inches. Crucially, Samsung pledges an impressive seven-year commitment for software and security updates for the Flip 7, ensuring support until 2032. This far exceeds the Razr Ultra’s three years of major software and four years of security updates, offering a significant longevity advantage for Samsung users.
