IGN Review: Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge’s Ultra-Thin Design Sacrifices Key Features

A new review from IGN reveals that while Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge achieves an impressively thin profile, its pursuit of slimness leads to significant compromises in overall quality and performance. Positioned as an extra-thin addition to the Galaxy S25 lineup, the S25 Edge measures just 5.8mm thick, making it one of Samsung’s slimmest phones to date.
Despite its sleek design and premium titanium frame, the S25 Edge faces critical issues. Performance suffers notably due to thermal throttling; the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, while powerful in short bursts, experiences severe drops in sustained workloads, losing over 50% of its performance in stress tests. This is largely attributed to the phone’s thin build precluding robust cooling solutions.
The device features a large 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a sharp 1440×3120 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, offering good brightness. However, it exhibits a noticeable color shift at angles and lacks the anti-glare coating of its Ultra sibling. Battery life, powered by a 3,900mAh cell, is described as merely ‘reasonable’ for a full day, falling short of competitors.
Camera capabilities are also scaled back. Unlike the S25 Ultra’s quad-camera setup, the S25 Edge sports a simpler dual-camera system, including a 200MP main sensor (shared with the Ultra) and a 12MP ultrawide. While the main sensor delivers sharp photos, the absence of a dedicated telephoto lens results in poor digital zoom quality, and the ultrawide is a clear downgrade. The phone also lacks the S Pen functionality found in other premium Samsung models.
IGN’s verdict is clear: the Galaxy S25 Edge’s extreme thinness is not a compelling enough selling point to compensate for the features and performance it sacrifices. Priced at $1,099 for the 256GB model, the review suggests consumers might find better value and fewer compromises in other devices.
